The first game of the season in the Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup at Bilston Town’s Queen St ground last Thursday saw Sedgley White Lions from the Midland Juniors Premier League face Wyrley Juniors Rangers from the Walsall League.
In a very close exciting game Sedgley White Lions took the lead after 5 minutes through Temple Uchena Okkinakka but Wyrley battled back to equalise with a great finish from Luke Georgiou after a slick pass from Jack Collins. The Rangers took the lead with a composed finish from Bryan Tercjau but Sedgley were soon back on level terms courtesy of a screamer from 30 yards from Kyle Jones. Sedgley continued to press and only an excellent save from Wyrley keeper Luke Wooley kept the scores level. Some great football down the right flank from Callum Weir, Bryan and Jayden created a chance for Luke who duly obliged and tucked it away for his second of the game to give Wyrley a 3-2 advantage. Sedgley again pressed hard for an equaliser but when they conceded a free kick just outside their box Wyrley captain Jack Collins stepped up to take the kick and hit the top corner of the net with a tremendous drive to kill off the tie with Wyrley progressing to the next round with a 4-2 victory. A fantastic tie between two excellent and well matched teams. A great advert for the competition and for local youth football.

The Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup sponsored by the Bilston Rotary Club continued last Thursday at Bilston Town’s Queen St ground when Stafford Falcons Royals from the Mid Staffs League faced Mere Green Cobras from the Central Warwick League.
A very close first half was just edged by the Falcons but with both defences holding firm the teams went into the break level pegging. The Cobras started the second half brightly and had the best of the early exchanges before the Falcons gradually forced themselves back into the game. With chances at both ends the defences were being tested but remained resilient until Stafford were awarded a free kick about 30 yards out. Callum Foxley Dean stepped up to take the kick and an excellently struck shot left the Cobras keeper well beaten to give the Falcons the advantage. Mere Green were not daunted though and pressed for an equaliser but the Stafford defence held firm and they themselves had chances to extend their lead. As one particular Cobras attack broke down the ball was cleared forward and the Mere Green keeper came out of his area to clear the ball to the half way line where it was won by Callum Foxley Dean who took a couple of paces forward before lobbing the Cobras keeper from fully 40 yards as the unfortunate keeper raced back to his goal line. The Falcons, with a two goal cushion started to take control of the game although the Cobras did create opportunities to reduce the deficit it was the Falcons who rounded off the scoring for the evening when Callum Foxley Dean completed his hat trick with another excellent long range effort. Although Stafford Falcons deservedly took the plaudits and progressed to the quarter finals with a 3-0 victory, Mere Green Cobras can be rightly proud of their endeavours and their contribution to an entertaining game.
WYRLEY JUNIORS PANTHERS 5 TRYSULL TIGERS EAST 1
ROUND ONE | THURSDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2017
MATCH IMAGES
The Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup sponsored by the Bilston Rotary Club continued last Thursday at Bilston Town’s Queen St ground when Wyrley Juniors Panthers from the Lichfield League faced Trysull Tigers East from the Stourbridge League and it was the Panthers who progressed to the second round after a hard fought 5-1 victory over the Tigers.
The game started at a hectic pace with Trysull closing down Wyrley at every opportunity, this resulted in the Panthers not being able to settle into their normal passing style of play. Both teams were vying for supremacy with most of the game being played out in the middle of the pitch .The Tigers pacey forwards were keeping the Wyrley back 4 on their toes and some good last ditch defending by Harvey and Drysdale kept attackers at bay.
As the game settled down the Panthers began to excert some pressure with McGuiness and Gough making telling runs behind the Trysull back four. The first goal came after 15 mins when a good passage of play from Wyrley sent Butcher down the right wing and an excellent cross was met by McGuiness who steered a powerful header past the Trysull keeper. This goal appeared to rally the Tigers who enjoyed a period of pressure in the Wyrley half and only some good defending from Morton and Parkes-Mahoney managed to maintain the Panthers slender lead.
Wyrley looked sharp on the break and they extended their lead after 25 mins, some sharp passing in midfield sent Gough through and the ball broke to Hillier who calmly stroke the ball home from just inside the box.
Again this goal appeared to spur Trysull on as they launch several attacks to try to get themselves back in the game. Just before half time their endeavours were rewarded when a good through ball from midfield sent Hubball through and although the Wyrley keeper (Beesley) got to the ball first his attempted clearance struck the on running Hubball and the ball sailed into the empty net to reduce the Panthers lead and with no further goalmouth action the teams went into the break with Wyrley leading 2-1.
Wyrley made three changes at half-time with Herrington, Rochelle and Cooke entering the fray. All three substitutes made an instant impression on the game as Wyrley began to dominate. The passing game that had eluded them in the first half began to take shape with Wyrley passing the ball out from the back. Scott and Whitehouse began to take control of the midfield as the Panthers built several dangerous attacks. This pressure began to bear fruit with first Gough finding the net and soon after Hillier bagging his second to stretch Wryley’s advantage to 4-1. The Trysull keeper made an outstanding save from Herrington when one on one and Wyrley spurned another couple of chances to increase their led. Herrington was causing the Trysull defence all sorts of problems with his movement and pace and he was rewarded with a goal when he struck a sweet long-range effort into the top concern to make the score 5-1. Trysull kept to their task and continued to push and probe however the back four of Wyrley held firm to see out the last few minutes.

ROUND ONE | THURSDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2017
MATCH IMAGES
The Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup sponsored by the Bilston Rotary Club continued last Thursday at Bilston Town’s Queen St ground when Lichfield League outfit Lichfield Round Table Jets faced Brewood Juniors from the Midland Junior Premier League. After 70 minutes, it was the team from Brewood who progressed to the next round with a 6-0 victory.
In the opening minutes, both sides shared flashes of possession before Brewood broke the deadlock after 4 minutes. With some fluid play down the right wing, Brewood’s Johnston played an inside pass to Boote, who in turn set-up Daley to squeeze his shot past the Jets’ advancing keeper, Gill.
In response to going behind, the Jets pressed for an equaliser, with Hill-Breese displaying some tricky footwork on the left wing to win a free kick in the opposition’s half. The Jets pressed further, winning two corners in quick succession. However, on the 14 minute mark, Brewood hit the Jets on the break, with Gill sending a long pass over the Jets’ defence, to leave Daley once again with a one-on-one with the keeper, which he duly converted to make it 2-0. Soon after the restart, a high ball into the Jets’ box was parried by the keeper; eventually falling to Greybanks waiting on the edge of the box, ready to bury his well-controlled shot to the keeper’s left. 3-0 soon turned to 4-0 as the Jets struggled to recover from conceding two goals in quick succession. Boote with a slide-rule through ball left Mincher alone with the keeper to beat on the 20 minute mark.
The intensity of Brewood’s attacks died off after this and the Jets pressed once again for a goal. When the Jets’ Turnbull was fouled in the opposition half, Bostock tested Brewood’s keeper Ray with a set-piece, who did well to keep out a good effort.
The half ended the way it began, with Brewood catching the Jets with a well-worked break. Gill sent another searching ball over the top of the Jets’ defence, prompting Mincher to break the off-side trap and tuck the ball away beneath the approaching keeper. The half ended with a deserved 5-0 scoreline in favour of Brewood Juniors.
When the second half began, it soon became apparent the Jets had taken note of the quick breaks Brewood Juniors had executed so well in the first half. This meant the second half was a closer affair. Neither team took control of the second half, with both teams looking to send balls over the top of the opposing defences, with little success.
In the 30th minute of the second half, the Jets’ Hair and Dix combined well to win a corner and push for a goal. However, the Jets’ commendable attitude and effort did not pay off with the goal they were looking for. This led to an untidy passage of play, where neither team managed to control the game convincingly.
As the game looked to be coasting to the full-time whistle, the ball broke to Brewood’s midfielder Greybanks, who split the Jets’ defence with a through-ball, leaving Boote to convert yet another one-on-one with the Jets’ keeper, Gill.
In a game that saw much of its best, and most contested football in the first half, it ended with a 6-0 victory to Brewood Juniors.

The second Quarter Final of the Bilston Rotary Club sponsored Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup last Thursday saw Walsall League side Beacon Lions take on Lichfield Round Table Silver from the Midland Junior Premier League.
The teams walked out onto the pitch at Bilston Town on a calm, crisp evening, a marked contrast to the conditions 24 hours.
The early exchanges were tight with the Lions packing the midfield and their defensive third however their lone striker was quick and it needed resolute defending from the Silver’s back four to keep him at bay. Chances were few and far between as the game was played out in the middle of the park. The best two chances fell to the Silver’s Will Finlay. His sumptuous strike was brilliantly turned over by the Lions’ keeper and soon after he was unlucky to see another fine strike whistle past the upright. The contest was evenly poised until an unfortunately slip by a Lions’ defender allowed Charlie Steele to run into the penalty area unopposed and strike the ball passed the advancing keeper. This spurred Lichfield on to start to take control of the game but they could not find a way past the impressive Beacon keeper.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with the Lions compact and solid at the back and in midfield but they found it more difficult to release their lone raider upfront. Although the game was played for the most part in the Lions half the Silvers were unable to add to their tally as they let more chances go begging. When the Lions forced a series of corners it seemed that they might find an equalizer but they were unable to find a way past the Silvers’ solid defence to really test Jonty Kearns in the Silvers’ goal. Finally the Lichfield outfit moved the ball well enough to find Jasper Dale unboxed in the box and he thumped the ball home to give the Silvers a two goal cushion.
This spurred the Lions into action and they threw players forward in an attempt to get back into the game but the Silvers’ defence, well marshalled by an outstanding Ollie Thomas held firm and the game ended with a 2-0 victory to Lichfield to see them book their place in the semi finals.

The penultimate Quarter Final tie in the Bilston Rotary Club sponsored Bilston Town Under 13 Midweek Floodlit Cup last Thursday saw Walsall League side Tipton Youth take on Brewood Juniors from the Midland Junior Premier League.
Despite a wintery flurry just before kick off the snow held off to unable the game to be played in dry but crisp conditions.
Brewood had the better of the early exchanges and looked the side most likely to score but the Tipton defence held firm and gradually Tipton forced themselves back into the game and it was Tipton who broke the deadlock when Liam Wilson went one on one with the Brewood keeper Ollie Ray to score the first goal of the night. Brewood quickly bounced back and were back on level terms when a strike from Joe Mincher was deflected into his own net by a Tipton defender. .
The second half was completely different with Tipton quickly out of the blocks to restore their advantage after just three minutes when a great cross from Ayo Lekuti found Liam Wilson who found the net for his second of the game. This gave Tipton the edge and they looked to push the ball forward at every opportunity and they were rewarded with a second half hat trick from Chad Rogers with the third a diagonal strike which game the Brewood keeper no chance. Brewood never let their heads drop but they could not find a way back into the game as the Tipton defence held firm and when they did break through they could not find a way past the Tipton keeper Oliver Smith and Tipton ran out worthy winners against a very strong MJPL outfit.
